Promoting beekeeping at local Shows, Carnivals and Fayres

Each year we attend a number of events to introduce the public to beekeeping. At each event we take an observation hive (unless one is supplied) that allows the public to see honey bees close up, but safely behind glass!

It is a great opportunity to allay the public's fear of bees and to explain the differences between honey bees, wasps and bumble bees.

Basic Assessment

To take the BBKA Basic Assessment in beekeeping, candidates must have been keeping bees for twelve months or have already taken the Branch's 'Introduction to Beekeeping' course.

Do you want to learn more about the craft of beekeeping? If you're a new beekeeper (or not so new for that matter) and want to learn much more about beekeeping then come along to our Basic Assessment in Beekeeping course. Although you might hate the thought of taking an exam, this is not compulsory. Just do the course and you'll have the opportunity to learn the basic things all beekeepers need to know.

The final exam is optional and is completely practical/oral and will take place at a hive (but not yours!). If you decide to take the final exam and pass it, you'll be refunded the cost of the exam fee (£15).

The theory part of the Basic Assessment in Beekeeping course will be held at the Old School House, Ulnes Walton Lane, Leyland, PR26 8LT on the following dates :-

Wednesday 6th May at 7:00 PM
Monday 18th May at 7:00 PM
Wednesday 27th May at 7:00 PM
Monday 1st June at 7:00 PM
Monday 15th June at 7:00 PM

Two practical sessions will be arranged to take place at the Branch out apiary in June (evening/weekend). The final exam will also take place at the Branch out apiary. The practical and exam dates will be arranged with course attendees.

The course fee is £20 per person, with an additional £15 to take the final exam.
